producer / collaborator
Over the last few years I have found great fulfilment collaborating with other composers co-writing, producing and arranging.
Compositions usually start with inspiration and great ideas… but then lack development and somehow fail to progress. Often just another composer, like myself, looking at the piece and suggesting ideas is enough creative input to move things forward, but there are also a vast number of tried and tested techniques that can be applied… experience and taste determine which ones work. I know compositions are precious things but sometimes it's best to let go and co-write with someone else to realise the full potential of your ideas.
The creative arrangement of works generates more textures and opens the musical pallet up to include parts with different instruments. These are usually instigated through traditional music notation and realised either by using computer technology or real instruments. Recent advancement in Sibelius and Logic enable some amazing results without hiring other musicians.
As part of the process I always aim to impart some of my experience and learning to the collaborators. Not just theoretical aspects of composition and development but also new and creative ideas.
I have basic recording and mixing facilities which are suitable for some demo recordings but aren't a substitute for a professionally engineered recording. For more professional recordings I have good connections with professional studios and engineers.
I only work with other artists who I feel I can make a difference collaborating with. I work for satisfaction and enjoyment, not money. For this reason I prefer to work as co-writer/producer with songwriting credit but charging no fee at all. However, for writing new parts, arrangements and production I can also work for an agreed fee.
If your interested in working with me please get in touch and, if possible send an example of your work.
